Welcome Page

The purpose of the welcome page is to capture the attention of your visitors by offering them a brief, yet unique glimpse of yourself, the purpose of the website, and an indication of what they will experience as they browse through your ePortfolio.

This glimpse of who you are should include a theme, or main idea that conveys a point that you want to make about yourself and your work. Your theme reveals a facet of your identity that will help you begin building your brand, or trademark. Like a business, how you present yourself now can begin showing what you stand for. Theme, brand, and digital identity are ways to distinguish yourself from others.

As you continue to take courses at SPCC, you can think about your theme and how it relates to you as a learner.

Welcome Page Guidelines

  • A purposeful, attention grabbing technique using text and images that will interest visitors in your ePortfolio and indicate theme, or main idea. Theme provides purpose, organization, and meaning. One option is the use of a metaphor to help describe your learning experience. A metaphor is defined as a word or phrase used to represent something that is similar. This metaphor can be used to select an image or images to accompany your text. Another technique is to select a quotation that communicates your philosophy toward life and learning. Using a metaphor, a quotation, or other options can help you create a theme for your ePortfolio. Use one option to help you communicate your theme.

  • A statement that relays the main purpose of your ePortfolio—what is the point of your website? If you're not sure, the ePortfolio is used to demonstrate what you have learned in the first two years of your college education using work samples, reflections, and pieces of contextual writing to pull everything together.

  • A statement that previews the contents of your website.
