                                          Questions and Answers

Is there a particular program I should use to build my ePortfolio?

  • SPCC has selected Wix as the supported ePortfolio platform.

  • Wix provides:

    • an easy to use drag-and-drop interface

    • 30 fonts and hundreds of templates

    • 2.5 GB of free storage

    • FAQs, public forums, and interactive video tutorials

    • password protection and the ability to hide sites from web searches

How do I get started with Wix?

  • Access Wix at www.wix.com

  • Select your template. The CVs and portfolios section will be a good place to start.

  • View the tutorials found by clicking on the Support link at the top of the Wix home page.
Begin with the tutorials under Getting Started and The Wix Editor.

  • View additional tutorials as needed.

Which option do I use to sign in to Wix when creating my Wix account?

  • Click the Sign In button at the top of the Wix home page.

  • Sign in using your SPCC email account/password.

  • Follow the provided instructions to confirm your account.

Should I cite images and information that I did not create?

  • Cite sources that you use in the ePortfolio the same way that you would in a paper. Images or quotations that are not yours should be cited. Use the style of your discipline. The citation should be under the image or near the bottom of the page.

What about copyright laws?

  • Your ePortfolio will contain content and reflections that you create.

  • You may include photos as long as you are not violating copyright laws.

  • Copyright is protection created by the US Constitution that gives virtually every author the exclusive right to use or reproduce their work. This is a federal law and therefore uniform across all states. And, as the US Government has signed on to a variety of international copyright agreements, protection is essentially world-wide. Nearly every photo taken gives the author (the one who takes the photo) a protectable right to prevent others from using or reproducing that image. Where can I find photos that I can use without being concerned about copyright issues?

  • You can use photos that you take yourself as long as they do not include other people.
    (Copyright definition)

  • You will find a Free from Wix tab for each of the Image types that can be added to your ePortfolio from within the Wix Editor.

  • These websites provide photos that you can use without seeking permission of the owner:
