Each year, the top three ePortfolios from the School of Arts and Sciences capstone courses are selected to represent the amazing academic talents of our students. Isabella Szarko, 1st Place, 2nd Place, Erik Vega, and 3rd Place, Kalani Grigson

Isabella Szarko: The Naturalist's Palette

My ePortfolio is a visual exploration of nature through the lens of art and science, showcasing my passion for wildlife and art and reflecting on how these intertwine with my academic journey at SPCC. I chose to incorporate a scientific illustration theme into my ePortfolio, focusing primarily on animals and botanical art, not only to represent me and my passions but also as an homage to the crucial role that past scientific artists and conservationists played in documenting and conserving the natural world. Their dedication to both scientific accuracy and visual beauty inspires much of my own work, which I was also able to showcase and reflect upon in my ePortfolio. Creating it was an incredibly rewarding experience, especially as I could see all my best works compiled, and just how much I have accomplished here at SPCC.

Erik Vega: Garden of Growth

My ePortfolio is an exploration of how the learning experiences we face are truly what defines us as individuals, not necessarily what we achieve in the end. I compare myself to a growing plant, which also helps intertwine my career goals of further studying biology as well as my passion for living things. My ePortfolio looks back at both my SPCC journey through the perspective that my experiences and I are an ongoing process. The finished product may be the most pleasing to look at, such as a beautiful rose or a sunflower, but the individual steps of growth are more important and can be described in detail. Every artifact paints a picture of how I've grown in a particular skill, expressing what I excelled at and what took more time to master. Self growth comes best from situations in which we are pushed harder than what we believe our limits to be. Creating this ePortfolio has put into perspective just how much growth I've undergone at SPCC, both academically and socially, and has given me more confidence in my abilities as an individual.

Kalani Grigson: Scarlett Graduate

As a student, organization grounds me. As an artist, I grasp concepts most effectively through visual means. Crafting this ePortfolio not only provided a visual representation of my artistic journey but also facilitated a process of arranging, sharpening my organizational skills. Ultimately, it enhanced my self-awareness and growth. As you continue into my website, I trust you'll discern my robust work ethic, creative artistic flair, and unconventional personality.
