It is an organized piece of writing that has an introduction, body and conclusion. By the time you revise it in HUM-110 or 115, it will be a portrait of the person that you have become. It will reveal the synthesis of your learning experiences for professionals who make decisions that will affect your future such as college professors, Honors College directors, scholarship teams, and employers. Your ePortfolio could make the difference in any situation where you need to distinquish your achievements.

Keep the purpose of your ePortfolio in mind. You are giving viewers a glimpse of who you are in light of your future educational plans and career goals.

The following guidelines are to be used to create the Personal Introduction. You will need to synthesize the elements to create a unified piece of writing that effectively makes a point about who you are as a learner.

  • A clear focus, or main idea. Be purposeful by selecting a theme, or main idea about yourself to develop. Use your theme to organize the writing.

  • Introduction, body, and conclusion of three-four paragraphs

  • Think outside the box. You are an individual, so be creative while maintaining your professionalism.

  • A balance of text, images, video, etc. You are not required to include a photo of yourself, and remember the rules for using photos of others or those that belong to others. Images, photos, videos, etc. should reflect your purpose.

  • Tell viewers about your education and life experiences that have influenced the person that you have become and perhaps led you to your educational or career goals. Include events in your life that helped to define who you are today and/or how you see the world today.

  • Provide an academic profile relevant to your future plans. What are/were your academic strengths and challenges? What do you plan to study when you transfer? If you are entering the job market, what career would you like to pursue? Why did you decide on this career or major?

  • What are your academic and personal interests? Share any information that you feel helps your audience understand who you are or how you approach your academic life and personal life.
