About me

Hello, my name is Janice Trudy and I am an Associate of Arts Degree candidate at South Piedmont Community College in Monroe, North Carolina. My plan is to pursue a degree in Communications from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte upon graduating from SPCC.

Since I was the editor of my school newspaper at Sun Valley High School, my wish has been to work in journalism. I enjoy working with all types of people and I find I learn something new every day from someone. It usually surprises me that I can relate to so many different types of people. I am a good listener and take great pride in making others feel they have a voice. I want to take that information and create something new and exciting to share with the world. Throughout my childhood, my parents took me to many culturally different cities and let me see firsthand how each of us contributes something different to those we meet. Our experiences shape us and help us grow as individuals so we can be ready for the world once we are through with our education. I think learning is to be for life so we won’t get bored!

I have also participated in many mission trips through my church and it has been life changing. I was able to lend a hand to those less fortunate and meet so many beautiful people along the way. Each trip has deepened my curiosity about things I may have missed and has made me realize that I need to continue my travels in hopes of finding the perfect place for me to use my journalist talents. I could see myself being a national news reporter telling the world about what I have learned.

I like to consider myself a self-starter and I am a “hands-on” learner. I am inspired when I am visiting art galleries and museums in various cultural regions in my travels. Having had these experiences, I feel I am able to see the world through many different perspectives and that enriches my writing. On a recent trip to Mexico, I met a wonderful family who told me stories about their relatives that had been handed down through the generations. This time with them strengthened my desire to provide information in a new and creative way that I hope will inspire others.

When I was in high school, I had the honor of being the editor of my school newspaper. This gave me a place to explore my creativity and to get to know my strengths in communicating with people. Leadership skills came quickly and I learned through trial and error how to work through problems while leading groups.

My hobbies and interests are varied. I love the outdoors and team sports. I have been on the track team and love participating in running events for charities. That way, I get to give back to the community. I find it a great way to relax and get in shape at the same time. My reflection time usually happens when I am running.
