My goals

While I have many goals, I’d like to introduce you to some of the most important ones I have related to my personal, social, and academic development.

Educational Goals

  • While at SPCC, the most important skills I would like to develop include:

    • The ability to speak effectively to work as a journalist.

    • The ability to write effectively as a journalist.

    • The ability to use multimedia effectively to work as a journalist.

  • To accomplish my general goals, I’ll try to take as many classes in communication and journalism as I can.

Personal and Social Goals

  • While at SPCC, I want to continue playing team sports. This will give me an outlet for stress and provide excellent opportunities to stay in shape. I like feeling that my contributions to the team will make a difference. I realize that as I pursue my studies, time will be scarce and so my plan is to stop playing sports when I start my coursework at the university.

  • I will continue to travel as I feel this is valuable to my education. I want to see at least another country during the summer to explore the landscapes and try to figure out if I am prepared to travel on my own. In the past, I have traveled with family or groups of friends, but I feel I need the challenge of staying in a youth hostel and managing my finances on an extended journey.

  • Another goal for me is to use my Spanish in my travels to strengthen my understanding of the language. I realize there are many different dialects and since I am a Communications major, it is good for my future career to be fluent and confident in a second language. I know this is a lofty goal, but I know that I can do it if I plan properly and include specific times in my week to focus on my studies.

  • My personal goal while at SPCC is to learn as much as possible and enjoy my experiences as a student with the knowledge that I can do anything if I properly plan and work toward my goals. Just knowing that I have a goal that is written down is motivating to me. I like to keep my goals nearby and when I think I have done all that I can do, I get them out and read them again. This lets me reflect on what I have done and sometimes this serves as a starting point to change directions if something is not working properly. I learned how to do this in my Communication class at SPCC and it has helped me through each week’s assignments.

Short-term Goals

  • I plan to complete my undergraduate degree in Communications at UNCC within the next three years. I will work hard and graduate from UNCC with honors.

  • Since I enjoy traveling, and getting to know the locals no matter where I go, I will continue working with many different charitable events to keep giving back to the communities.

Long-term Goals

  • Pursue Master’s degree in Journalism

    • While earning my bachelor’s degree, I will research possible local and online university programs for my next degree.

    • I will earn my Master’s degree by 2017.

  • Travel abroad

    • It is my goal to go on a foreign missions trip every three years.

    • I am open to studying abroad for my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

  • Personal long-term

    • It is my goal to continue training and conditioning to run a full marathon before I am 30 years old.
